You ever have one of those moments when something about a story finally clicks to you and everything is fucking awesome? Yeah that happened to me.

Cutting for FFXI / WoTG spoilers and for people who don’t give a shit about XI.

So I read Vana’diel Quest Log’s most recent entry, the Windurst 9-1 mission, and I finally understood one of the things that had confused me for a while.

So the Star Sibyl did a star reading before the war and saw utter destruction and oh shit yadda yadda. Obviously that didn’t come to pass, so what the fuck was going on there?

Then I realized she had done this before the timelines branched off, so she was actually reading Real/Lilith’s Vana’diel’s future, not Impossible/Our Vana’diel’s timeline, which wasn’t supposed to exist in the first place. That explains why she got doom and gloom instead of magical tear cats and stable time loop adventurer shit.

I have to wonder if this was actually planned out in advance or if it was just convenient and fit. I’d think it’d be the latter, because that shit happens to me CONSTANTLY and I can’t be the only one. But with all the shit they’ve kept consistent over the years I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was the former.

Either way I fucking love how connected this game is. All the expansions flow into each other perfectly, save WoTG, but due to the fact the thing is set entirely in the past, it’d obviously be exempt from this… and of course the events in it kickstart the entire series so yeah. On top of that, various optional quests and NPC dialogue further add to the main storyline(s) and help augment them with nice little tidbits that give you a much deeper glance into the lore and events that have occurred.

Anyone who says this game doesn’t have a story or doesn’t “deserve to be a main line game” can go brush their teeth with a brick because this game has so much thought and attention that’s gone into it and to say it’s mindless bear ass fetching with no substance is just completely, objectively wrong.

BTW did I mention I love this game because I love this game. Why the fuck aren’t there more lore fans whyyyy. I love the gameplay too but fuck, guys, there’s some good shit in there. D:
